Alumni Council Annual Meeting

The Madison House Alumni Council met in Charlottesville August 16th and 17th, 2008 for its annual meeting. The weekend focused on inducting new members, brainstorming new outreach efforts, and solidifying long-term funding for the organization. Each of the three sub-committees of the Council developed an annual work plan for their committee and will meet monthly via conference call to ensure all tasks are accomplished.

Reaching Out

Madison House is collaborating with the U.Va. Club of Los Angeles to hold a service event on November 15, 2008. Check back for details, or if you live in the L.A. area and would like more information on how to participate, email alumnicouncil@madisonhouse.org.

On the Road

The next Madison House alumni reception will be held in Richmond, VA in March of 2009. We are currently seeking individuals or corporations who would be willing to help underwrite/sponsor the event. If you are able to help, please email mark@madisonhouse.org.

E-Pals

Have you ever thought about connecting back to a Madison House student leader or volunteer? If you have, consider becoming an E-Pal! The E-pal program is e-mail based mentoring, allowing even the busiest 'Hoo alumni to create an ongoing dialogue with current Madison House student volunteers. Mentor pals may guide students in terms of career advice, offer encouragement, or simply discuss questions about life after graduation. Any Madison House alumni may volunteer to serve as a mentor pal and any Madison House volunteer may request an e-pal. E-pals mentors are expected to correspond with his or her student mentee on a monthly basis for one school year. This is the minimum program requirement and, of course, e-pals are welcome and encouraged to exchange messages as frequently as they desire. Every mentor will be provided with suggested monthly topics and ideas for fostering effective dialogue over the course of the year.

Although this program is closed for the 2008-2009 academic year, you are welcome to be put on the list for next year. For more information, email alumnicouncil@madisonhouse.org.
