SOCA: Hot Shots

What Will Volunteers Do?

Volunteers for this program will be partnered with one or two other volunteer coaches at a program site. Together, volunteer coaches will coach one team of about ten children. The children can be anywhere from 4 to 6 years of age. As coaches, the volunteers will run assigned practice drills for each week, such as "red light, green light" or "sharks and minnows" for the first 35 minutes. Then for the last 25 minutes, the teams play against one another. This is a fun way to get involved in the community, teach children the basic skills of soccer, and share your love for the sport. This program runs from late September to early November, and then early March to late May.

When?

Volunteering happens once a week, on Saturday mornings from 9:00am to 10:00am.

Rookie Soccer

What Will Volunteers Do?

Volunteers for this program will help watch and coach little kids in soccer each Saturday morning. The kids range from 3 to 8 years old, and because of their young age, volunteers should aim to teach basic principles of soccer while making their experience as fun as possible. Volunteers need to be dependable and love to work with kids; experience in soccer is preferable but not necessary. The program starts September 13, 2014 and ends in mid-October.

When?

Volunteering happens once a week on Saturdays for one hour starting at either 9:00am, 10:00am, 11:00am, or 12:00pm (noon).

YMCA Basketball

When?

To be assigned.

Girls on the Run

Note: This program will take place from September 2-November 22, 2014.

What Will Volunteers Do?

The Assistant Coach is a volunteer position that assists the Head Coach(es) at a Girls on the Run program site for one day a week. The position entails approximately 1.5-3 hours per week for 12 weeks. The club meets after school (2:30pm-4:00pn) twice a week in the fall and participates in a 5K in Lynchburg at the end of the season. Along with running with the girls, one of the main goals is to be a positive and encouraging role model as these elementary school-aged children learn to run!

When?

After school from 2:30pm-4:00pm.

Where?

To be assigned.
