Housing Improvement

The Housing Improvement Program (HIP) is an energetic student run group with three goals: connect student volunteers to those in need, educate the general public, and have fun while doing so. By providing a safe and encouraging environment for volunteers, HIP hopes to improve the housing conditions of Charlottesville and Albemarle residents. With build sites from Crozet to 10th street, students get to explore Charlottesville while meeting a large and diverse populace. Projects are also diverse, ranging from full on house construction to building handicap ramps. Students can choose to work with Habitat for Humanity, the Habitat Store, and Albermarle Housing Improvement.

Volunteers will learn new skills and work hands-on with renovations ranging in size from building decks, emergency and wheelchair ramps, roofing, painting, and much more. Volunteers do not need prior experience as there will be an instructional leader who will help guide them through the various projects.
