Volunteers work at several local agencies providing specialized recreation, rehabilitation and companionship services such as Albemarle County Post High, Charlottesville Area Riding Therapy (CART), Therapeutic Adventures, Region Ten's Meadowcreek Center for adults with intellectual disabilities, Special Olympics, and ARC of the Piedmont.
What will volunteers do?
Whether it is through sports, cooking, playing therapeutic games, riding a horse, arts and crafts, or yoga, volunteers will interact with individuals with some type of disability. Volunteers are given a unique opportunity to help others learn and develop essential life skills, resulting in a truly rewarding experience for both participants.
Dates and times vary according to site. Shifts are normally about two hours long, once a week. Transportation will be provided via carpool.
How can I get involved?
Registration begins January 18, 2017. Click the "Register to Volunteer with Recreational Therapy" link in the upper left-hand column of this page, and fill out the corresponding application.
