What Will the Volunteers Do?
Front Desk Attendant:
Volunteers will interact with every student that walks in the door of the MRC. Responsibilities of staffing the front desk include checking-in members as they arrive, giving tours of the MRC to potential members and their parents, and helping students with basic equipment and studio questions. One of the biggest perks of this position is getting to know a wide cross-section of students and learning about the diversity of music projects on which they are working.
Music Teacher:
Volunteers are paired with students of similar musical interests and meet one-on-one to work on the students' goals. Volunteers do not need to be classically-trained or professional musicians; however, they should feel comfortable teaching one-on-one and explaining his or her instrument. In this position, a volunteer will meet with a student for 30-45 minutes per week for eight weeks to further the students' musical development, either by establishing an end goal to work toward or by outlining techniques to work on for each week. Guitar, bass, drums, beatmaking, and vocals are the most needed areas for music teachers.
When?
There are 12 possible weekly shifts that are available. Monday through Friday the shifts are 3 -5 p.m. and 5 -7 p.m. On Saturday, shifts are 12 -2p.m. and 2 -4 p.m. Volunteers are asked to select one shift per week.
