Hispanic Family Night

What will the volunteers do?

Volunteers travel to a local elementary school to work in a group setting with several migrant families. Volunteers will help kids with homework, English skills, and study skills. Other volunteers will work with the parents to help them learn English. Although it is more of a group environment, tutoring is usually one-on-one.

When?

Students will fill out their availability and volunteer one evening, either Monday evening after 6:00PM or Wednesday evening after 6:00PM.

Homework Helpers

What will the volunteers do?

Volunteers travel to the homes of migrant families and help kids with homework and study skills. Some volunteers will work with parents on learning English or other endeavors such as studying for the citizenship test.

When?

Students will volunteer one evening Monday-Thursday after 5:00pm, with certain sites that require volunteers during the late morning or early afternoon.

Adult Tutoring

What will volunteers do?

Volunteers travel as a group to local orchards to tutor migrant workers in English. With the help of a Migrant Education teacher, the volunteers will hold group lessons and one-on-one tutoring with the migrant workers. Tutoring often takes place in an outdoor, rustic setting (particularly during the fall semester, when there are more opportunities for this kind of tutoring).

When?

Students will volunteer after 5:00 PM one evening of the week. The day of the week is to be determined. Please contact the Head Program Director for updates.

Cherry Avenue

Volunteers travel to a local church to work individually and in groups with local elementary, middle, and high school students. Volunteers will help with homework, English skills, and study skills, among other tasks.

When?

Tuesday evening after 6:00pm.
