Training
A training session is required. The training is to be announced
Additionally, Head Start requires that you be tested for tuberculosis. You must submit proof that you have had a TB shot within the past six months.
Responsibilities
The volunteer will have the opportunity to work with a classroom of children ranging from four-year-old programs to sixth grade as well as Afterschool programs and four Head-Start Centers. Once placed in a specific classroom, the volunteer and the teacher discuss what specific role the volunteer will have. Some days you might work with a small group of children, other days you might be asked to help a single child with a particular skill. You and the teacher will work together to use your strengths in the classroom.
Each booster will be matched to visit the classroom at least one hour a week. (volunteers are encouraged to visit their class more than once a week and to stay for longer blocks of time if possible.) The times will be the same each week and regular attendance is very important. This program is a semester commitment. The program tries to provide carpools to the area schools. Regular attendance is crucial. If, for any reason, you must miss volunteering, you must let your teacher and your driver/rider know ahead of time.
