ADULT TUTORING (Migrant Camps)

What will volunteers do?

Volunteers travel as a group to local orchards to tutor migrant workers in English. With the help of a Migrant Education teacher, the volunteers will hold group lessons and one-on-one tutoring with the migrant workers. Tutoring often takes place in an outdoor, rustic setting (particularly during the fall semester, when there are more opportunities for this kind of tutoring).

When?

Students will meet at Madison House Wednesday nights at 6:15pm.

 

Cherry Avenue

What will the volunteers do?

Volunteers travel to a local church to work individually and in groups with local elementary, middle, and high school students. Volunteers will help with homework, English skills, and study skills, among other tasks.

When?

Students will meet at Madison House on Tuesday evenings at 6:45pm.

 

Homework Helpers

What will the volunteers do?

Volunteers travel to the homes of migrant families and help kids with homework and study skills. Some volunteers will work with parents on learning English or other endeavors such as studying for the citizenship test.

When? 

Students will volunteer one evening Monday-Thursday for a two hour block after 5:00pm.

What will the volunteers do?

Volunteers travel to a local church to work individually and in groups with local elementary, middle, and high school students. Volunteers will help with homework, English skills, and study skills, among other tasks. Volunteers will also work with adults on basic English as well as GED and placement test preparation.

When? 

Students will volunteer on Tuesdays at 6:30.

 

SIn barreras

WHAT WILL THE VOLUNTEERS DO?

Volunteers travel to Jefferson City School, where Sin Barreras is located, to work individually and in groups with either adults or children. Volunteers will help with homework, English skills, GED prep, and more.

WHEN?

Students will meet at Madison House at 6:30pm to carpool to Jefferson City School on Monday nights.
